I know a lot of our bride and groom to be, who are planning to have their wedding ceremony abroad have questions on "when will they receive their marriage certificate" if they are planning to solemnize their wedding outside their country. Every country has its own provisions or requirements on how many days the couple would wait to receive their marriage certificate.

We know that Marriage Certificates are important to couples. This is more than just a documentation or proof of wedding but an essential document for the couple moving forward with their lives as " Mr and Mrs".

I have list down few of the countries and the number of days you need to wait for the couple to receive their Marriage Certificates.

    Jamaica: 6‐8 weeks
    Antigua: 4‐6 weeks
    Bahamas: 8‐10 weeks
    Saint Lucia: 6-8 weeks
    Grenada 2-3 weeks
    Barbados 2-4 weeks.

I hope this info could help couples, especially those who wants to have a beach wedding in Caribbean.

If you're having your wedding in Denmark. You will get one certificate straight away; it comes already translated into English, German, Spanish, and French. Then, they send the second certificate to the Danish Foreign Ministry to get an “apostille” as part of their service to you. You should receive it by post a week or two later.

Good thing about Sweden is, you dont need to wait for your marriage license for a few more days or weeks.

"According to Swedish law, all non-residents/non-citizens of Sweden who wishes to get married in Sweden should present a document from their home country stating their marital status. Since in there is no national registry in the U.S., no equivalent national document can be obtained from the U.S. However, certain states/counties may issue a document regarding a person’s marital status, or a so-called “Record of No Record”. Check with your local County Clerk’s office, or Vital Statistics office, to find out if such a document is available.

There is no waiting period. However, the Certificate of No Impediment (hindersprövning) may need to be posted for 21 days prior to your marriage. You also need to confirm your wedding date and location with a marriage officiant about a month prior to your marriage.

In Fiji you only need this: Passports; birth certificates; notarized letters of paternal consent if under 21 must be signed by father unless he is deceased; proof of divorce or death certificate of former spouse/s (if applicable).

Note: Registration formalities take about 15 minutes (you both must appear) but paperwork processing takes one working day. Other requirements vary by church.

You can check other info in their Bureau website. bulafiji

I hope this can help to those who plan to have their wedding in US:

Here is a list of common waiting periods, and the states that have them.

    1 day: South Carolina
3 days: Alaska, District of Columbia, Florida (unless couple attends a marriage preparation class), Kansas, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Jersey, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Washington
    5 days: Minnesota
    6 days: Wisconsin

A Waiting Period After Receiving a Marriage License

In addition to the above waiting period, some states include as one of their marriage license requirements a waiting period between the time you receive your marriage license and the time you can actually, legally, get married. Most states allow you to get married immediately, but here are the ones that don't and how long you have to wait.

1 day: Delaware, Illinois, New York
    2 days: Maryland
    3 days: Iowa, Louisiana, Texas

How Long Until Your Marriage License Expires

Once you've received your marriage license, it is only valid for a certain amount of time. Here's how long you have before your license expires and you have to reapply for another.

    10 days: Oklahoma
    30 days
: Alabama, Delaware, Hawaii, Kentucky, Louisiana, Missouri, Tennessee, Utah, Wisconsin
    35 Days: Colorado
60 days: Arkansas, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Massachusetts, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia
90 days: Alaska, California, Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Texas
6 months: Iowa, Kansas, Maryland, Minnesota, Montana, Montana, New Jersey
1 year: Arizona, Nebraska, Nevada, Wyoming
Other: Connecticut (65 days), Michigan (33 days), South Dakota (20 days)
No expiration: District of Columbia, Georgia, Idaho, Mississippi, New Mexico, South Carolina

    In Philippines:

When you got to file for the Marriage License, it will take 10 days before they will issue it. I was told that they post the application publicly which allows anyone to come forward and say why it shouldn't be granted.. really??
