You know him, you love him…

… but do you really know him?

Chip Gaines has been a fixture on HGTV ever since Fixer Upper broke out as a hit, laughing and joking around with wife Joanna.

We adore the couple.

But we’d also like to dig a little deeper and really try to understand what makes Chip tick.

1. His Background is in Business

Gaines graduated with a marketing degree from Baylor University’s Hankamer School of Business.

2. A Family Man

Chip and Joanna have four children: Drake, Ella, Duke, and Emmie Kay.

3. Life on a Farm

As loyal viewers may know, the couple lives in a 100-year-old farmhouse, which sits on 40 acres of land.

4. He’s More Than Just a Real Estate Guy

Chip has owned several businesses, includingGreen and Gold Wash and Fold – a local Waco laundry service geared toward college students – a fireworks stand and numerous landscaping companies.

5. When Did He Get Married?

On March 31, 2003. Shortly afterward, Chip and Joanna renovated their first house together.

6. He Almost Played Baseball for a Living!

He wanted to at least. Chip played for Northlake College in Irving for a year and then transferred to Baylor University in Waco, but failed to make that school’s team. “It was devastating. We were just all heartbroken,” said his mother, Gayle Gaines.
