Once the cake is eaten and the party is over, the wedding photos will bring joy for years to come. When choosing a wedding photographer, consider the three P’s:

• Personality

Price

The price should fit within a couple’s budget, but it’s also important to remember that photography is one of the most expensive parts of the wedding. This isn’t an area where couples should cut corners. Ask your photographer about discounts on shorter time blocks. If you are having a small, intimate affair you may only need to pay for a few hours of coverage instead of a full eight hour wedding package.

Packages

Photography and video packages are another consideration. Check what services each vendor offers, how much more longer blocks of time cost, and what products you will receive after the wedding. Edited, high-resolution photos and a copyright release statement are necessary for printing photos.

Personality

Finally, consider the personality of the photographer and their personal picture style. Some photographers have a more classic and timely portrait style while others embrace a livelier, more playful theme. The choice comes down to the couple’s personal preference and the tone of the wedding. Meeting the photographer before signing a contract and viewing past work will help narrow down choices to vendors that match the couple’s style. 

Booking an engagement photo session, often included in larger photography packages, gives the couple a chance to familiarize themselves with the photographers and become more comfortable posing for photos. If things don’t work out, it’s better to pay the cancellation fee and find a better match then spend thousands of dollars on disappointing wedding photos.
