Ayada Resort, Maldives
The Ayada Resort is in the Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll, just north of the equator. Each of the 112 rooms and suites has its own private plunge pool, terrace, direct access to the beach or sea, butler service, uninterrupted views of the coral reef, and water so blue you will struggle to believe it is real.
The villas inside are as pristine as their surroundings, decorated with teak, marble, and terrazzo, with floor to ceiling height glass doors that open fully, to allow you to make the most of the view. The villas are supported on poles just a short walk along a wooden jetty from the private island. There you will find tropical gardens, six restaurants, a spa and Turkish Hammam, and gym.
Hilton Bora Bora Nui Resort, Tahiti

All the suites and villas at the Hilton Bora Bora Nui Resort are impressive, but none more so than the two story Presidential which has two bedrooms, three bathrooms, and 300 square metres of space.

Rosewood Mayakoba, Mexico
Suspended over a series of lagoons near Cancun on the Riviera Maya, Rosewood Mayakoba bungalows are a haven of contemporary design and classic luxuries like 24-hour butler service.
The best villa is the Deluxe Overwater Lagoon suite which features a private deck with plunge pool, and outdoor garden shower. Rooms are decorated with consideration to the resort’s Mexican heritage using local wood and limestone for many of the features.
Hotel Palafitte, Switzerland
You don’t have to travel to the tropics to enjoy the sensation of sleeping in an overwater room. Hotel Palafitte accommodates guests in rooms on stilts over the water of Lake Neuchatel. The ambiance of the suites is as far from traditional Polynesian thatched roofs as you can imagine, being modern and almost industrial in their design.
Choose a bungalow with a ladder into the water and enjoy breakfast on the terrace, drinking in the views of the lake as you drink your coffee.
Gili Lankanfushi, Maldives
If you want somewhere you can escape from it all without sacrificing luxury the Gili Lankanfushi is it. This incredible resort boasts indulgent overwater bungalows complete with open air living rooms, roof top sun decks, king sized beds, and semi-open air bathrooms.
