The Duchess of Cambridge enchanted everyone in her classic gown with a V-neckline, lace bodice and long sleeves, and cathedral train, and started the trend toward more vintage-style dresses. The design is still influencing designers who are unveiling more classic looks. This year, simple styles include gowns with bateau necklines with tiered skirts or lace overlays. Sweetheart neckline dresses with a sheer, illusion overlay are enhanced with lacy, floral appliques and beading. Gowns with illusion bodices have the appearance of a plunging neckline with the modest appearance that many brides favor. 

Designers are incorporating a touch of color in their gowns for the bride who wants a romantic look. Light colors including taupe and silver are attractive. Pale shades of pink and blush add emphasis to a simple gown. Subtle underlays in stone washed shades provide a warm appearance while lace appliques with interwoven silver make the gown appear to glow. A sweetheart neckline dress in silver, silk organza makes a charming statement. Several designers are featuring dresses in light blue shades with an embroidered, lace bodice. Floral designs are always popular for spring, and they're appearing on wedding dresses in the fabric or embroidered on the dress. Traditional, sheath-style gowns with embroidered lace appliques feature metallic threads for a subtle touch of color.

Lace is making a big comeback in bridalwear. Some designers are using lace all over their gowns while others use it as subtle details. Layers of lace and tulle that's embroidered give wedding dresses more texture and have intricate detail including beading that has a 3-D effect. Another trend gaining popularity is the sheer, detachable overskirt in a translucent fabric over a sheath-style gown. Elaborate, vintage-style gowns are reminiscent of the Victorian era. Delicate details include pearls hand sewn into the sleeves, high necklines with lace touches, and ball gowns created of silk for a classic look.
